Snake Tail & Pig Tail Marking Knives
Two new designs I have completed out at the forge, the Snake Tail and the Pig Tail carpenter’s marking knives. These can be made in either a right or left handed model. The bevel helps keep the knife edge against the rule as you scribe your line. The knives will be supplied with a thong and blade cover in brown or black leather and can be easily carried in a pocket or looped around the neck and dropped in a shirt pocket by the user.
I will be offering these in the Etsy store as a bespoke item shortly, so keep your eyes peeled for them.

being a traditional hand tool woodworker i especially like marking knives i can’t go to the shop without one and i especially like these knives a lot and would love to own one and think you can really make something of yourself in the woodworkers world for these knives because traditional woodworkers would love to have a knife forged from a blacksmith it just puts the feeling of being in the 19th century in the shop ps did i mention i really like the knives ?
Hi Mike,
Thanks for the enthusiasm! I am planning to put the marking knives up in my Etsy shop shortly. I currently have only the two that are shown here, but I can make lefty models as well. If you need a left hand model let me know and I can make one for you or you can just purchase one of the two I have now once they are listed. I expect to have them up by the weekend so check back on Saturday. The Etsy site is http://www.etsy.com/shop/LRWickerDesign. Thanks again and have fun woodworking : )
I just saw the photos for the sheaths and they look really nice together and you can bet I’ll be buying one asap, I would buy both of them but I want to let someone else have the chance to use one of these knives. And I wanted to ask you how big the knives are, they seem like there pocket sized and if they are that would be perfect considering i usually keep a knife in my pocket at all times.
They are pocket size, about 4 1/2 inches unsheathed, 5 inches in the sheath. I find the ring rests in the palm of my hand and it is easy to guide the point with your finger tip. I expect they will suit you just fine.
